Would like to visit in life of 17th century's people? Come to Kutch a district of gujarat state of india. You will not imagine still such people living on earth. They use to pass their days with very minimum requirement & necessities as people use to live in 17th century.
People which i want to introduce is Dhebariya Rabari of Kutch who used migrate from one place to other everyday in search for their livelihood & food for cattle. They migrate from Banni wetland & grassland,Vagad of Kutch to various part of Rajsthan, North gujarat, Madhya pradesh were fodder is available to feed their lively stock. Most of the time, they wander with their herds. Camel, Goat, Sheep are the main animal which they rear. Farmer of that place where Dhebariya goes use to hire their cattle to feed them in their Farm as their Dung plays a role of manure & make land fertile & sell the wool extracted from sheeps, this is the only main source of income of Dhebariyas.
The Rabari people are tribes of nomadic camel drivers who were settled in the state of Gujarat, the west of India near Pakistan. The Rabari women excel at the art of the embroidery. Some of the textiles (for example the camel blanket) required 6 months of work for 2 woman. It was during their spare time that the women embroidered and passed on their know-how to the girls. Many of the pieces were made by young girls (assisted by the women in their family) for their dowry; the greater the collection of embroidered textiles in the dowry the more valuable the bride is considered. However, the textiles are a material expression of their unique culture.Their craftsmanship and attention paid to detail on the embroidered and carved pieces is stunning. What cloth they wear is:
“Woman’s blouse” (mushroom embroidery ). A cloth that allows silk to be used on the exterior and cotton on the interior of a garment- A technique developed for and by Muslim people. Made by Rajput People. "Kadla"-Pair of metal anklets with engraved designs. The "Kadla" are important ornament given to the bride by groom's family at engagement time. From the village of Dhebaria of the Rabari people. “Kediyeen” - Man’s festival jackets, cotton cloth, cotton thread; hand stiched, applique, hand-embroided: back interlaced stitches. “Cushion for the head”- Cushion worn when women carry large vessels of water or grain on the head. Hand-Embroided with pieces of mirror. Usually one can see tatoos on their body, which they people think that this beautify their body.
These are all their luxuries is !
Dhebariya use camel as their carrier & they dump all their household on it. They use to ear Rotala( Chapati made up with Bajara). You can see this in above photos. This community still not imparted Education as they do not use to stay at one place. Thats why most people of this community remains unemployed & they still stuck to their customs & rituals which they follow from centuries. This community do have distinct characteristics which distinct them from other nomadic communties, is that in this community Girl child & female gets much privileges than male.
